Pullman Elementary School hosted a heartfelt Veterans Day Assembly today in the school gymnasium, gathering students, staff, parents, community members, and honored veterans to pay tribute to those who have served. Principal Amber Mortensen warmly welcomed everyone, setting a tone of respect and gratitude for the morning’s event.
The assembly began with kindergarten students leading the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a stirring rendition of the national anthem sung by Mrs. DeVries and Ms. Hill. Their beautiful voices earned applause from all in attendance.
Community member Sandy Anderson introduced the veterans present, recognizing each one for their service. This was followed by a special video presentation created by Pullman’s third and fifth-grade students, featuring a slideshow honoring veterans connected to the Pullman-area. “We’re grateful to Mr. Larson for his dedication to putting this meaningful tribute together,” Principal Mortensen remarked.
Second graders then took the stage with a lively performance of “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” filling the room with enthusiasm and patriotic spirit. The program continued as four fourth-grade representatives read poems dedicated to veterans, each expressing gratitude and admiration for their courage and sacrifices.
Zoe Warner read Veterans Day by Jessica Hawkins, reminding everyone of the bravery and sacrifices veterans make.
Raegan Cadwell shared Veterans Day Honoring All Who Served by Bridgette Cornelison, celebrating the courage and dedication of service members.
Jacob Santiago-Tapia recited Honor Veterans Day, a poem of gratitude for the freedoms veterans protect.
Brooklyn Beagle contributed to the poetry readings with When You See a Soldier, a powerful reminder to thank those who have served whenever we have the chance.
The first-grade class presented a moving video on "The Poppy Lady," recounting how Moina Belle Michael established the red poppy as a symbol of remembrance for soldiers. In a meaningful gesture, each first grader then gifted a handmade poppy flower to the veterans in attendance, symbolizing appreciation and respect.
Reflecting on the assembly, Principal Mortensen shared, “It was an honor to spend the morning with our local veterans, students, and community members to recognize and thank some of our local heroes. I’m proud of our students, who showed respect and understanding of the selflessness and bravery that members of the armed forces demonstrate.”
The Veterans Day Assembly was a touching event, highlighting the Pullman Elementary community’s commitment to honoring those who have served.
